Strengthened knowledge and capacity of constituents to promote equal pay and reduce gender pay gaps, including through partnerships (EPIC).
This Global Product aims to contribute to the universal ratification of the Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100) and its application by member States, to progress towards the achievement of SDG target 8.5, that also includes equal pay between women and men for work of equal value. Recognized as a fundamental right, equal pay for work of equal value means that equally qualified women and men should get equal pay when they perform the same or a similar job in equivalent conditions. It also covers situations where women and men do different work of equal value. When women and men carry out work that differs in content, involves different responsibilities and demands different skills or qualifications, and is performed under different conditions, but is overall of equal value, they should be paid equally. Without equal pay, women’s time, talent and contributions to society will continue to be undervalued, and the achievement of gender equality at work will remain illusory.
