Promotion of ILO Convention No. 169 and Capacity-Building of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples
Overall objective: Development, adoption and implementation of policies which integrate the rights, as conveyed in the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention, 1989 (No. 169), as well as the needs and priorities of indigenous and tribal peoples in the countries assisted by the project. The immediate objectives are: - The contents and principles of Convention No. 169 and, where applicable, Convention No. 107, will be better known and used, in particular in the countries in which the project works; and - The capacity of indigenous and tribal peoples to participate in development processes and programmes, and to defend their own interests, will be strengthened. The main outputs of this project are: 1.1 Coordination with, and contribution to, the work of the UN system and other international bodies on ITP issues. 1.2 Dissemination of information about ILO activities on ITPs. 1.3 Contribution to the formulation and implementation of ILO technical assistance on ITPs (mainstreaming of indigenous issues). 1.4 Capacity-building for indigenous peoples and government officials (at national, regional and interregional levels). 1.5 Support to national level efforts to promote the rights and improve the socio-economic situation of indigenous peoples.
