Promotion of Decent Work Opportunities for the economic empowerment of vulnerable segments of society

This is an innovative project to support jobs creation and promote decent work in Pakistan. The Project comprises of three main components, including: (a) strengthening national capacities to effectively eliminate exploitative labour practices (child and bonded labour); (b) strengthening cooperation between labour market institutions of Pakistan & Afghanistan for enhancing decent jobs for Afghan Refugees; and (c) engaging Pakistani diaspora in Italy for jobs creation and entrepreneurship promotion in Pakistan. The Project will build upon the previous work done by ILO and ISCOS for elimination of child and bonded labour in Pakistan and will consolidate previous efforts for sustainability. The project will also explore potential to provide decent work opportunities for around 3 million Afghan Refugees living in Pakistan by examining their existing working conditions and engaging with relevant authorities in Afghanistan to extend their support to Afghan Refugees in Pakistan. Likewise, the Project will explore the potential of engaging Pakistani diaspora in Italy for their contribution towards youth employment, entrepreneurship, skills development and other areas of decent work. The project will be funded by Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and will be implemented with an Italian Civil Society Organization, ISCOS along with Government, Employers and Workers organizations.
