Trade, employment and labour markets: diagnostic and firm level assessment.

The project “Trade, enterprises and labour markets: diagnostic and firm level assessment (ASSESS)” has the objective of developing a systematic framework for assessing labour market outcomes of trade agreements at the micro and macro level and thereby contributing to a more effective and inclusive implementation process at the country level. The outcomes of the project will consist of i) developing a diagnostics tool for assessing key indicators of the labour market linked to trade that include qualitative and quantitative aspects such as wages, productivity, and various types of employment, including vulnerable employment, disaggregated by gender and age where available; and ii) developing a framework for the empirical assessment of firm performance and worker outcomes of regional trade agreements, including labour provisions in such agreements and their contribution to the realization of fundamental principles and rights at work and the implementation mechanisms through which such principles and rights are promoted, based on information available in enterprise-level surveys. Thus, the project will help improve the knowledge base on the link between labour markets and trade agreements.
