Gobernabilidad de las migraciones mejorada en Colombia para promover empleos y trabajo decente

This RBSA-funded intervention is part of a coordinated response of the UN system to the Venezuela migration crisis. It aims at promoting decent work for Venezuelan migrants in Colombia at the national level as well as in the cities of Barranquilla and Cali, applying the principles of the Migration for Employment Convention (Revised), 1949 (No. 97) and the Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention, 1975 (No. 143). The intervention strategy focuses on the functioning of a designated national tripartite mechanism to follow up on the implementation of the labour chapter of the national migration policy, the capacitation of the employers’ and workers’ organizations and of relevant public institutions to promote decent work opportunities for migrant workers. It also addresses the design of a local intervention model to implement the labour chapter of the national migration policy, as an integral part of the municipal development plans. In Barranquilla and Cali, technical assistance is provided to promote migrants’ access to vocational training and employment and information services, as well as to help entrepreneurs to start a business through a management training programme. This intervention contributes to the country’s efforts to advance towards the attainment of SDG target 8.8 (Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment) and target 10.7 (Facilitate orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people, including through the implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies).
