Employment through Labour Intensive Infrastructure Program in Jordan - Phase V

The Project is an extension of the Employment through Labour Intensive Infrastructure Project in Jordan to improve the living conditions of Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians, enhancing their employability and access to jobs using labour intensive methods in infrastructure works. The Project aims to promote the sustainability of employment intensive projects through the development of the capacity of key government institutions and private sector contractors to implement this approach. Increasing women participation in the labour intensive works is another central focus of the Project that emphasizes (a) the need for the set-up of activities attractive for women, as part of a clear strategy to "bring more work to women and more women to work"; (b) the creation of favourable working environments; and (c) awareness raising of women for non-traditional occupations. Increasing the participation of persons with disabilities is also a key focus of the project. The Project is designed to create jobs for up to 3,900 workers, all of them provided with formal employment contracts, working with appropriate Occupational Safety and Health conditions and equipment, and registered in the Jordanian Social Security system without any discrimination based on nationality or sex. Workers graduating from the Project also have access to labour market oriented vocational training in collaboration with accredited training providers and 13 ILO run Employment Service Centres.
