Promoting gender-responsive workplaces in Egypt - Phase II
Building on the momentum arisen from the first phase of the Promoting Gender-Responsive Workplaces in Egypt project with i) the establishment of the Gender and Non-Discrimination Unit (GU) within the Ministry of Manpower (MoM); ii) the adoption of an Action Plan on Strengthening Gender Equality and Women Representation by the Egyptian Democratic Labour Congress (EDLC) as a direct result of the training of more than one hundred trade union members on promoting gender equality within their structures; and iii) the capacity building of almost 50 Human Resources (HR) managers representing more than 40 companies during the two cycles of the Human Resources and Gender Academy: Strategies and Practical Solutions for Better HR and Gender Policies, it is crucial to capitalize on these achievements towards ensuring sustainability of the GU and full ownership of social partners. For that, the ILO Cairo Office will thrive to further achieve the following outcomes: Outcome 1: The Ministry of Manpower’s (MoM) capacity is strengthened to promote and achieve gender equality and non-discrimination in the workplace; Outcome 2: A National Action Plan on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination at Work is drafted; Outcome 3: Trade unions and employers at company and sectoral levels are more capable to contribute to the promotion of gender equality.
