Raising public awareness and support for implementation of the ILO Declaration
The ILO InFocus Programme on Promoting the Declaration has the responsibility of promoting conditions that would enable member States of the ILO to meet fully the commitments contained in the June 1998 Declaration. To this end, a global awareness-raising project has been employed to achieve the objective of increasing global public awareness and support for the Declaration. The project has been actively developing and implementing a diverse range of activities at the national and international levels to promote understanding and acceptance of the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. The multi-tiered communications strategy has pursued initiatives and partnerships that have widely communicated the importance and relevance of the principles and rights enshrined in the Declaration within the local context and structure of society. The Declaration campaign has initiated partnerships with organizations with proven experience in developing effective communication initiatives which have existing distribution mechanisms. Over the past few years, the project has concentrated on delivering communication initiatives that reach wide segments of key audiences, mainly through TV, radio, print and through the Internet. The awareness-raising campaign has demonstrated that through key distribution channels the ILO can cost-effectively deliver messages and generate a broad base of support for the full application of the Declaration.
