Strengthening the capacity of governments and youth employment stakeholders in Africa in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes promoting decent jobs for youth

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of government institutions, youth, workers’ and employers’ organizations and other key youth employment stakeholders in Nigeria in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes promoting decent jobs for youth. The first project component aims to enhance capacity of youth and youth employment stakeholders in Nigeria for participatory implementation and monitoring of the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan (NIYEAP). The project will feature an inception workshop with the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee on Job Creation for Youth to initiate implementation of the NIYEAP and a dedicated effort to strengthen meaningful youth participation through the organization of youth labs in the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria to inform programmes and interventions, as well as to ground implementation on actual youth needs and aspirations. The project will provide technical assistance and support to the operationalization, effective coordination, results measurement and advocacy of the NIYEAP through capacity building and grants to strengthen results measurement of gender-responsive youth employment interventions and support the Government and youth employment stakeholders to monitor progress in the implementation of the NIYEAP. An information campaign will contribute to awareness, alignment and coherence of activities under the NIYEAP. The second component builds on the experience of youth employment stakeholders in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa to facilitate South-South and triangular cooperation and peer learning at the sub-regional level aimed at sharing knowledge on making youth employment policies participatory, inclusive and gender-responsive.
