Trade Sector Development Programme" Upgrading Horticulture Supply and Sustainable Tourism to develop business linkages

The Myanmar- SECO – UN Cluster project, “Enhancing horticulture supply and sustainable tourism to develop business linkages” aims to improve horticultural productive capacity, improve sustainable inclusive tourism development and promoting business backward linkages between tourism and horticulture sectors in the Inle Lake region of Shan State, Myanmar. The project intervention is expected to enhance the livelihoods of the local beneficiary communities through income generation and employment creation, thus contributing to poverty reduction. This project is part of the The Myanmar- SECO – UN Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity project that was signed between the Government of the Union of Myanmar through the Ministry of Commerce; the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO); and the implementing UN agencies: UNCTAD, ITC, UNIDO and UNOPS. The first phase of the project is planned to run for four years (2018 to 2022) with a total budget of USD 4.8 million. The International Labour Organization has been engaged to assist the Myanmar SECO – UN Cluster project through its work by the Lab. The work to be conducted during this project will be to complete an analysis of backward linkage opportunities between the horticulture (principally tea, ginger and avocado) and tourism sectors in project intervention areas.
