Phase-II Occupational Safety and Health in Myanmar Global Supply Chains - A Vision Zero Fund Project

The mandate of the Vision Zero Fund (VZF) initiative is “preventing and reducing workplace-related deaths and serious injuries by strengthening public frameworks and establishing sustainable business practices”. In Myanmar, the VZF has implemented activities since May 2017, and included comprehensive assessments of OSH drivers and constrains in the ginger and garments global supply chains (GSCs). The project’s second phase will include an additional GSC, construction, and will consolidate and expand activities in ginger and garments. The project will contribute to the enactment and implementation of the new OSH Law through its work on institutional strengthening and key activities in GSCs. The project will focus on achieving (IO1) strengthened global, regional and national enabling environments for the promotion of safe and healthy working conditions in garment, ginger and construction; (IO2) improved legal, policy and implementation frameworks to promote and enforce OSH protection, prevention and compensation in garment, ginger, and construction and (IO3) increased application of effective OSH prevention, protection and compensation mechanisms for women and men working in selected GSCs.The project will continue coordinate the ILO OSH Project Portfolio in the ILO Liaison Office in Yangon under Pillar of Myanmar’s Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) 2018-2021. The project directly contributes to achieving Priority 3, Outcome 3.2 “By 2021, coverage of existing social insurance schemes extended for formal workers and their dependents” and Outcome 3.3: “By 2021, an integrated and unified OSH system is in place and implemented”.
