Increased capacity of constituents to provide adequate labour protection to workers in diverse forms of work arrangements, including on digital labour platforms, and in informal employment

The project aims at strengthening the knowledge base for the protection of workers in new forms of work associated with digital transformation and of workers in informal employment, notably domestic workers. The project components include the following: 1. Improving protection for workers in new forms of work: An in-depth analysis of existing challenges on ensuring decent work in the platform economy and possible policy options, including regarding workers' data privacy, will be developed. This will be complemented with research aimed at filling the knowledge gaps regarding access to decent work in the platform economy by analyzing efforts made by gig workers to engage in organizing for better protection. Work will contribute to an exchange of views and guidance from employers, workers and governments on this policy area at both the national and international levels. Improving the protection of domestic workers: To mark the 10-year anniversary of the adoption of the Convention, a global report on the impact of C.189 on the lives of domestic workers will be produced. The report will include statistics on the number of domestic workers; the change in percentage of those protected by laws in key areas of wages, working time, and maternity protection; implementation gaps; and good practices to close those gaps. A global campaign to mark the 10-year anniversary, as well as to disseminate the global report, is also envisaged.
