Safety nets and revenue recovery for the poorest households and women informal workers in Cabo Verde (COVID-19)
The impact of COVID-19 led to a sudden and considerable decrease of demand in economic production and employment. Moreover, the impact of COVID-19 is hitting the women harder than other segments of society, considering that female poverty in Cabo Verde is a a major problem and that most women operate in informal business units, making them very vulnerable due to poor access to solidarity networks, finance, business development services and digital literacy. It is within this context that the ILO decided to support 150 women informal entrepreneurs in Santo Antão and Fogo in reactivating and recovering their businesses, while facilitating their transition to formal economy and adapting to the post-pandemic context. Each beneficiary will receive technical assistance to build a back-to-business strategy, a training on financial education and direct cash support to relaunch her activities.
