South East Asia regional programme for labour migration in the fishing sector

The aim of the project is to promote regular and safe labour migration among South East Asian countries, in particular in the fishing and seafood processing industry. The specific objectives are: - To strengthen the legal, policy and regulatory frameworks related to labour migration and labour standards, with a focus on the fishing and seafood processing sectors in South East Asia; - To protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments, in particular for all migrant workers from recruitment to post-admission and end of the contract; - To empower migrant workers, their families, organisations and communities to promote and exercise their rights.-. With co-funding from the EU the four year project is carried out in South East Asia, in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Indonesia, Philippines, and Viet Nam. Regional activities cover the afore mentionded countries as well as Malaysia and organisations in the sub-region. An asymmetric approach will be adopted in target countries depending on their status as a country of origin, country of destination or transit country. The action will also target SEA migrant fishers migrating to work in countries other than SEA ones but no activities will take place outside of SEA.
