Strengthened capacity of member States to ratify and apply international labour standards and to fulfil their reporting obligations
As of mid-2020, Jordan has ratified 26 ILO Conventions, including seven of the eight fundamental Conventions and three of the four governance Conventions. However, significant gaps remain in the legal and institutional framework for the protection of fundamental rights at work and for ensuring sound labour market governance. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the need for sound labour market governance and sustained social dialogue. Through this intervention, the ILO provides technical advice to the Government on aligning national legislative frameworks and strengthens the capacities of ILO tripartite constituents to create an enabling environment for ratification of other ILO Conventions. The expected end-result of this intervention is progress towards ratification of all fundamental and governance Conventions as well as timely compliance of Jordan with ILO reporting obligations. In turn, this also provides a framework for targeted interventions in other countries in the region to promote ratification of ILO fundamental Conventions.
