Strengthened institutional capacity of employers' organizations Strengthened institutional capacity of workers’ organizations
This intervention addresses the negative impacts of COVID-19 on workers and employers in Eritrea through the development of the capacity of the social partners’ organizations to promote gender-responsive occupational safety and health (OSH) practices in the workplace. The ILO, in collaboration with UNDP, supports the National Council of Eritrean Workers and the Employers’ Federation of Eritrea in developing position papers and communication campaigns on OSH and COVID-19 and in providing services to their members focusing on safe practices for a safe return to work and on collective bargaining in relation to OSH and productivity at company level. Gender considerations are mainstreamed into all the activities, ensuring non-discrimination and considering women’s specific needs in terms of OSH. The ILO also engages with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare to ensure its support to the social partners’ initiatives and the effective application of measures, as well as to promote the ratification of the Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 144) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187).
