Strengthened capacity of member States to ratify and apply international labour standards and to fulfil their reporting obligations .
This intervention aims to improve labour relations in South Sudan by establishing labour institutions that contribute to economic empowerment and long-term peace in the country. This has become even more urgent as the COVID-19 crisis has significantly affected businesses, jobs, wages and incomes. The ILO, in collaboration with other UN agencies and development partners, provides technical advice to develop gender-responsive labour regulations in line with the Labour Administration Convention, 1978 (No. 150). The intervention also strengthens the capacity of constituents to play an active role in the formulation and functioning of the Labour Advisory Council – a tripartite institutional mechanism that promotes industrial harmony and protects rights of workers. The expected end results of the intervention include: 1) a tripartite Labour Advisory Council is established and operationalized; 2) gender-responsive labour regulations are developed and adopted; and 3) the country has strengthened capacity to report on ratified ILO Conventions and to consider the ratification of other ILO Conventions.
