Improved ability of remittance-dependent communities in the conflict-affected areas to cope with the impact of COVID-19 on their livelihoods

The project aims to address pressing needs to create jobs, improve livelihoods and build resilience for remittance dependent communities - especially returned migrants, women & youth – to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and armed conflict in EAO and mixed administration areas of Kayin and Mon State. Remittances have been a lifeline for many conflict-affected communities in southeast Myanmar and the reduction of remittances will potentially have devastating consequences for these communities. The project will provide employment opportunities to remittance dependent communities through the improvement of community-demanded rural infrastructure mainly focusing on WASH facilities and also an emphasis on implementing Upskills TVET training for the poor and vulnerable ethnic remittance dependent communities that are home of the pandemic affected migrant workers. The project will not only provide a very important safety net for those most vulnerable and affected in the remittance-dependent villages in Kayin and Mon State, it will also support longer-term recovery by increasing employability and creating key rural infrastructure.
