PROMOTING DECENT WORK THROUGH STRENGTHENING OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (OSH) MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL DIALOGUE

The project aims to contribute to Improvement of rights and working conditions of the Kosovo Labour force, particularly occupational safety and health standards, through several interventions. One of the interventions will be the focus to improve the policies, regulations, rules and procedures of OSH and bringing them in line with International and European standards, as well as the human, organizational and technical capacities of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and Labour Inspectorate in order to facilitate the improvement of overall workers’ rights and working conditions through the promotion of equal opportunities for men and women for decent work and safe workplaces. Moreover, the project aims to raise the knowledge about the importance of the application of OSH standards among targeted groups such as young people (including special requirements of women, and those with disabilities), students of Kosovo Vocational Schools and higher education institutions, trainees of Vocational Training Centres, local businesses and other local entities involved in activities that requires application of OSH standards in the workplace. Furthermore, an intensive media campaign will be organized in order to raise the awareness of the whole society on the importance of the implementation of OSH standards. The project also seeks to strengthen the cooperation among all interested stakeholders and coordination between the institutional mechanisms of OSH such as the National Council for Safety and Health at Work, Economic and Social Council (ESC), local businesses and Civil Society Organizations working in the field of OSH. The project will coordinate closely with the key stakeholders: Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Labour Inspectorate, Employment Agency of Kosovo, Ministry of Education Science and Technology respectively the Agency for Vocational education and training and adult education, Kosovo Economic and Social Council (ESC), National Council for Safety and Health at Work, Trade Unions, Civil Society Organisation (CSO) working in the field of promotion of the labour rights, decent work and OSH with a special focus on supporting and strengthening the Coalition for Social Justice established by a group of Local NGO’s and other entities involved in labour rights issues, Local Businesses working in the field of OSH and others relevant to the field. Impact: The project will contribute to SDG 8, Target 8.8: “Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment” Outcomes: 1. Improved national regulations and policies on OSH and labour legislation, harmonized with International Labour Standards and EU practices 2. Improved enforcement by Labour Inspectorate (LI) 3. Improved application of OSH and labour rights (LR) standards by businesses and employees 4. Enhanced social dialogue on OSH and LR
