Unlocking opportunities to build a better normal: Toward gender responsive and resilient MSMEs in the Manufacturing & Support Industries in the Philippines
The research supports the socio-economic recovery in the Philippines through a deepened understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on MSMEs and how they can be supported to take advantage of emerging opportunities labour market and supply chain analysis in selected sectors, identifying potentials for decent job creation and rapid greener recovery by harnessing local content. The research fills the knowledge gap on the manufacturing sector MSMEs, particularly on (1) Coping mechanisms with regards to preserving employment, product/service diversification, digitalization efforts, maintaining cash flow and where they are seeking support. (2) Needs to build better, greener and gender fairer businesses in the new normal, including but not limited to the support from the government, financial institutions and other private sector groups; (3) Emerging good practices that will lead to gender inclusive, sustainable recovery and climatesmart enterprises and green jobs creation. Better understanding of these research areas will include analysis to better situate and facilitate women’s opportunity to thrive and lead in business and workplace to enhance strategies and refine mechanisms in place.
