Economic resilience of Azov region in Ukraine

The project supports training of at least 400 entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs in the targeted locations using the Start and Improve Your Businesses (SIYB) training methodology. In addition, minimum 100 startup grants of up to 2,500 EUR per individual is provided to the best evaluated business plans among those 400. This project is complemented by other ILO activities implemented under the 5-year, Danish funded, project “Inclusive Labour Markets for Job Creation in Ukraine”. Within this 5-year project the ILO trains additional 25 SIYB trainers in Ukraine (In addition to 52 already trained and certified). Aiming at achieving synergy with the GIZ project the ILO selects Mariupol (Donetsk region), Melitopol, Berdjansk, Tokmak and Prymorsk (Zaporizhia region) to assist with other complementary technical assistance. This TA comprises of selection, training and certification of SIYB trainers and implementation of Local Employment Partnership approach. Therefore, particular attention is paid to selection of minimum 2 additional SIYB trainers out of 25 mentioned above in the targeted regions. Having the SIYB trainers in the targeted region ensures sustainability and replicability of SIYB trainings. Namely, these trainers come either from the State Employment Service (SES), NGO/BDS, and VET schools. Additional synergy is achieved through implementation of Local Employment Partnership. The Local Employment Partnerships (LEPs) are contracted regional or local partnerships to better link employment policy with other policies in order to improve the employment situation at regional and local level and one of the ways how to localize employment policies. The LEP in the targeted region brings together local SES office, local governance, NGOs, education providers and businesses to identify, develop and implement measures that creates more enabling environment for job creation and overall economic development. Within this interventional additional 25 startup grants (up to 3,000 USD per individual grant) is provided. Therefore, there is good potential for synergy effects and long-lasting results.
