Improved productivity and working conditions for small and medium enterprises in Sao Paulo
SMEs are key for Brazil’s economy but face many challenges affecting productivity. The key project objective is to support SMEs in becoming more productive and improve working conditions through sustainably implementing the SCORE programme, anchoring it in national and local institutions, contributing to the objectives of the National Policy on strengthening SMEs and building capacity of all implementing partners. The main result to be achived is that by the end of the project SMEs in national and global supply chains have improved productivity and working conditions and decent work. The project has 3 Outcomes: a) public and private implementation partners have embedded SCORE Training in their national programmes and budgets for SME development in strategic sectors and clusters; b) SMEs in the selected sector/s have improved their linkage to international markets and their capacity to create more and better jobs; and c) increased awareness of responsible workplace practices at the local, national and global level. The project location will be the state of Sao Paulo and the focus will be on SMEs with high potential for job creation and improvement of working conditions. These sectors will be selected in consultation with tripartite constituents. To select the sectors it will also be considered data from national and subnational data bases, especially those related to OSH and to economic prospective. In preparing for the implementation of this project, CO-BRASILIA had made available (in the 2018-19 biennium) the training methodology in Portuguese and validated it within selected companies in the beverage sector. Brazilian professionals have also been trained to conduct the workshops for capacity building. The project strategy foresees that the consultations with the ILO constituents and the donor occur during the six initial months of the project to establish the economic sectors and the beneficiary SMEs.
