Blue Fairness and Integrity Research Compact
The overall goal of the programme is to improve evidence of the prevalence of trafficking for forced labour in the fishing industry to inform evidence-based policy and programming and galvanize international political support to address organised crime and illegal trade in the fisheries sector. The programme will provide baseline estimates of the number of victims of trafficking in persons exploited in the fishing industry, in addition to establishing an international framework for continued measurement. Through conducting these activities, the programme will also produce a set of tools and guidance on best practice to support developing countries and other actors in their work to monitor trafficking for forced labour in the fishing industry. The developing countries will have better tools, guidelines to measure trafficking for forced labour and this will strengthen their ability to address organized crime and illegal trade in the fisheries sector. The first phase of the project, however, will serve to initiate the programme and will deliver survey tools validated by an expert group/advisory board.
