Implementation of the GHS, preventing chemical accidents, and strengthening occupational safety and health
Important synergies exist between the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), occupational safety and health and the prevention of major industrial accidents linked to chemical hazards. As technology evolves and the structure of work continues to shift dramatically, industrial accidents continue to pose a major threat to workers and their communities. The recent (4 August 2020) port explosion in Lebanon more than ever highlights the urgent need to work towards preventing industrial catastrophes around the world. In response, the joint project between UNITAR and the ILO seeks to enhance chemicals management and prevent of major industrial accidents.
