Knowledge sharing and capacity building for agriculture and climate risk insurance

The ILO's Impact Insurance Facility is enabling the insurance sector, governments, and their partners to embrace impact insurance to reduce households" vulnerability, promote stronger enterprises and facilitate better public policies. The overall objective of the InsuResilience Investment Fund (IIF - TAF) is to contribute to the adaptation to climate change by improving access to and the use of insurance in developing countries. The specific objective of the fund is to reduce the vulnerability of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) as well as low-income households to extreme weather events. The two organisations are collaborating to build capacity through sharing knowledge to improve development and implementation of agriculture and climate risk insurance programmes. This encompasses two activities. 1. Conducting workshops with IIF-TAF investee Vison Fund for their Bima Maono Programme 2. Developing a community of practice for the TAF investees in Latin America. As these programmes of the investees face challenges including low beneficiary numbers, the collaborative project stimulates exchange among the investee partner organisations involved in agriculture and climate risk insurance through workshops and other mechanisms. This leads to contribution to the development of inclusive insurance markets, which in turn, accelerates the provision of valuable, and relevant risk-management solutions for agriculture based rural enterprises, households, individuals- farmers, and farm workers.
