Accelerator Lab 8.7
The ILO established in 2021 the 8.7 Accelerator Lab. This ILO programmatic framework focuses on accelerating progress on the eradication of Forced Labour and Child Labour by optimising the effectiveness of Development Cooperation interventions, including by the establishment of a pooled funding mechanism and fostering the shift from funding of individual projects to the financing of transformative change to achieve Target 8.7. Acceleration will be achieved by focusing on acceleration factors guiding the Lab programming: (1) fostering and developing political commitment, (2) addressing root causes, (3) focusing on vulnerable populations, (4) creating and sharing knowledge, (5) ensuring sustainable financing and (6) driving innovation. The acceleration factors derive from an in-depth assessment of what can positively effect change in policy and practice at scale. The 8.7 Accelerator Lab intervenes at the national, regional and global levels, leveraging the use of strategic entry points. - Partner countries include: Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and South Africa. Sectoral interventions to date include: fisheries, mining, and agriculture. More information on the strategy at: www.ilo.org/ipec/projects/global/lab87/lang--en/index.htm The 8.7 Accelerator Lab supports collaborative initiatives undertaken by the Alliance 8.7. and fosters effective coordination between different development partners to target the greatest needs and the most strategic interventions. Four development partners, including the United States (U.S. Department of Labour – project GLO/21/21/USA), Canada (Global Affairs Canada), Germany (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Norway (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation) have joined the initiative.
