STRENGTHENING SOCIAL HEALTH PROTECTION THROUGH PROVIDING FOR HEALTH

Executive summary Though the ILO has been a founding member of the Providing for Health (P4H) network, its ability to fully engage and bring a social protection perspective within the network’s activities is limited by the fact that it is not represented in the coordination desk. The project proposes to reinforce the P4H network through an ILO participation within the coordination desk, with a view to enhance P4H role in bringing together the different agencies supporting those different ministries and stakeholders. Ultimately, the objective is, through the reinforcement of the P4H network, to support effective dialogue and provide tools for national counterparts to be in a position to better align their health financing and social health protection strategies. The project aims to achieve one outcome through the positioning of a technical officer within the P4H coordination desk: the P4H coordination desk is strengthened, and more specifically the social health protection aspect of the network is reinforced as well as its connection with the wider universal social protection partnership. SDC is a core member of P4H and chairs among the bilateral agencies at the Steering Group. The P4H network is identified by the ILO and SDC as a possible channel to push a joint agenda on social health protection. Similarly, in more practical terms, ILO and SDC share a vision for elements that should be more prominently featured in the P4H network and notably a greater focus on gender and on providing more visibility to the results achieved through alignment of positions and technical support at country level.
