Women in Management Initiative (WIMIN) - supporting women to reach management and leadership positions in firms and workers' and employers' organisations

The female labour force participation rate in Lebanon stands at almost 30% and is highest amongst women aged 25-34. This suggests that women enter the labour force but leave at the age when they take up the primary responsibility for care work at home, and do not return. Women are under-represented in management positions within firms and in employers’ and workers’ organizations. This intervention aims to increase women’s representation at management level in firms and in employers’ and workers’ organizations. It focuses on sectors in which stability and growth are anticipated, such as health, banking, education and information technology. The intervention helps strengthen the capacity of business associations and workers’ organizations to promote gender equality amongst their members, and supports women to enter or return to the labour force in management positions. It also includes a pilot of advisory services promoting women in management in 5 firms. Expected results include gender assessments and gender equality action plans for business associations and workers’ organizations, the establishment of gender equality networks for employers’ organizations and trade unions, and a series of programmes on reskilling, upskilling, mentorship and leadership development specifically targeted at women. The intervention is carried out in collaboration with the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL), the National Federation of Employees’ and Workers’ Unions in Lebanon (FENASOL) and the Lebanese League for Women in Business (LLWB).
