Implementation of the Portworker Development Programme II

The project builds the capacity of instructors, managers, workers epresentatives and related department/units of port authorities and bulk terminals operators to improve overall cargo-handling performance, working conditions and practices in bulk terminals and bulk carriers. It also contributes to increase level of safety and welfare as well as the overall status of port workers. On-line instructor-training courses are conducted by the ILO's International Training Center, using the "Portowoker Development Programme (PDP II)" training materials produced under previous projects. The objective of the workshops is to provide instructors, managers and worker representatives of port bulk terminals with the organisational, technical and pedagogical competencies to ensure an appropriate implementation of the PDP II. The workshop provides an opportunity for participants to exchange views and experiences on training schemes and courses and undergo instructor training under the guidance of experienced instructors. Experiences from previpus training programme developed in bulk terminals (PDP I) shows that the benefits of the programme also extends across a broad range of stakeholders including workers involved in related activities at seaports and terminals, employed by clearing and forwarding agents, brokers, steam ship agents, transport companies and railways.
