Advancing rights in the palm oil sector in Indonesia and Malaysia
The project’s objective is to advance the rights of workers in the palm oil supply chain in Indonesia and Malaysia. In Indonesia, the project aims to effectively advocate for access to fundamental workers’ rights, in particular freedom of association and collective bargaining. The initiative builds on the past and ongoing ILO work in Indonesia’s palm oil sector and aims to help improve access to labour rights (and better-quality jobs), contributing to improved compliance, through strengthened capacity to implement core labour standards and national labour laws, and to expanded rule of law at both national and local levels. In Malaysia, the project aims to contribute to the elimination of child labour and forced labour in oil palm plantations by supporting the implementation of the recommendations in the 2018 Employment Surveys on Oil Palm Plantations.
