Contribution to the ILO’s Employment Policy Action Facility: Supporting COVID-19 employment recovery strategies
The COVID-19 crisis has severely impacted labour markets around the world, affecting certain sectors, such as accommodation and food services, and some population groups more, including women, informal workers and youth. In 2020, the ILO worked on global, regional and country-level assessments of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the labour market, along with support to countries on adapting existing or adopting new national employment policies as a key pillar of their response. In order to support countries shift their focus from the immediate crisis response to employment recovery strategies, the ILO proposes to improve conceptual support in two key areas: 1) an updated diagnostic framework for analysing and monitoring the crisis, particularly the recovery; and 2) a national employment policy toolbox, which acts as an integrated package for ILO constituents, development partners and other stakeholders to support the formulation and implementation of employment recovery strategies. The ILO will take an inter-department approach to these outputs, working closely with ILO field offices and other technical/development partners who work on similar tools. The overall duration of the project is 7 months.
