Strengthening Skills and Entrepreneurship in Agro-Food Systems for the Host Communities and Rohingya People in Cox’s Bazar (UNJP, ILO lead, with FAO)
The project is implemented in two phases to ensure maximum participation and buy-in from all stakeholders. Phase 1 is a one year inception phase, with a focus on establishing stakeholder engagement. Activities include stakeholder and beneficiary analysis, analysis of labour market needs and value chains, and assessment of business needs and opportunities in the camps and in the host community. The second Phase is the scale-up phase, where women and youths from the host communities and Rohingya households directly participate in project activities. Activities achieve three main outcomes: First, improved employability and mental well-being of Rohingya people through provision of market-responsive transferrable skills development and post-training support for wage or self-employment. Second, improved productivity, income and economic resilience of the horticulture and dry fish value chain participants in the host communities through adoption of sustainable and innovative technologies, good labour practices and effective market access. Third, improved social cohesion among host communities and the refugees through positive social and economic interactions. The project has targets of 40% beneficiaries being women and 50% of the total beneficiaries aged 18-35 years. This project broadly contributes to SDG 4, SDG 5 and SDG 8 within the global and national development contexts.
