Skills development and employment opportunities for vulnerable youth in Northern Mozambique.

MOZ/21/03/IFA - Decent Work for Youth in Mozambique (DW4YM) Enhancing skills for youth participation in the socio-economic development of Northern Mozambique. Project Summary The project is contributing towards the creation of decent work for young men and women in Mozambique. Specifically, the project will create more and better employment opportunities for vulnerable youth in the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Nampula in Northern Mozambique through the development of technical/vocational skills and entrepreneurship of youth along with a focus on agribusiness development and employment intensive infrastructure investments. These three provinces have been in a crisis situation for several years due to economic decline and natural disasters, which is further compounded by insurgencies. This crisis is greatly affecting opportunities for young people, women and people with disabilities to achieve gainful employment and to pursue economic activities. The intervention is focusing on facilitating alternative pathways to a better and more dignified life by increasing young peoples’ access to employment, by investing in skills training and education, by unlocking economic opportunities for business development and by instilling a sense of hope for the future. Specifically, the project is delivering the following results: ¿ Facilitate 5,000 vulnerable young women and men access to on-the-job technical training and entrepreneurial capacity development opportunities with the objective of increasing their employability, particularly in the agriculture, artisanal fisheries and aquaculture sectors; ¿ Open up 1,750 direct job opportunities through employment intensive interventions; ¿ Support the development of sectoral work-based learning approaches and their integration into the local Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system; ¿ Facilitate enhanced market access for young agri-entrepreneurs through value chain and market systems development with a focus on the establishment and support to integrated agribusiness hubs/anchor enterprises that will increase value addition and strengthen market linkages.
