Improving Disability Inclusion in TVET Programmes

The training programme is a partnership between the European Union-funded ILO Skills 21 – Empowering Citizens for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Project and the GIZ Global Programme on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to promote skills development for persons with disabilities (PWDs). The programme aims at improving the lives of PWDs through the acquisition of technical and entrepreneurial skills as well as soft skills and sign language to enable them to become productive and contributing members of the community. It seeks to strengthen the capacity of TVET providers, and DPOs to unlock opportunities for disability inclusion through discussions of good practices, lessons learned, and knowledge exchange emanating from the project. The overall objective is to improve skills and employability prospects of at least 40 PWDs in Gaibandha TTC and Khulna MPI. It will enhance the essential skills of the PWD beneficiaries, and boost their employability potential. The specific objectives are to: a. improve existing training infrastructure to address accessibility and reasonable adjustment; b. build and strengthen skills of PWD beneficiaries through upskilling trainings in the areas of skills and entrepreneurship, soft skills and sign language; c. provide career counselling services to guide the PWD beneficiaries in their career choices, and other career-related matters; and d. build linkages with OPD and potential employers and form a network with relevant stakeholders. In the implementation of the training programme, the following activities will be accomplished: (a) Preparation for Learning Materials and Orientation of Trainers; (b) Training Implementation – Skills, Entrepreneurship Development, Soft Skills and Sign Language; (c) Post Training Support; and (d) Advocacy and Awareness.
