Gender equality and non-discrimination
Over the past 20 years, key labour market indicators on gender equality have shown little progress and, in some cases, even regression. The health, social and economic crises resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have further worsened gender inequality in the world of work. Women have suffered disproportionate job and income losses, including because of their over-representation in the hardest-hit sectors, especially younger women and women in the informal economy. Women continue to work on the front line, sustaining care systems, economies and societies, while often also doing the majority of unpaid care work, which underscores the need for a gender-responsive recovery.
