Feasibility study on policy measures to support the local workforce into employment

The Government of Malaysia has requested ILO support to understand the work ‘readiness’ of the local workforce, especially in relation to the occupations and sectors which were mainly carried out by migrant workers, and to lay the ground for more effective labour market policies to meet the needs of the jobseekers and employers with vacancies. Expected results The overall expected results of the feasibility study are: (1) a clear problem analysis that will need to gain a broad consensus among the key stakeholders, in order to move forward in designing relevant policies and programmes by the public employment services; and (2) enhanced capacity of SOCSO to design and implement policies and programmes based on the findings. Impact The project will result in the deeper understanding of the nature of labour market mismatch, with the involvement of Public Employment Services (PES) to generate information, and, through stakeholder consultations, a consensus is reached on the way forward in terms of areas that need focused attention of the PES and possible services that the PES can deliver.
