Decent work in Nature-based Solutions
ILO and UNEP will co-lead the publication of a global biennual report series on decent jobs and work in NbS, in close collaboration with other partners, including IUCN , FAO, IFAD the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration Finance Task Force (led by World Bank), and the Green Jobs Assessment Institutions Network (GAIN). This bi-annual report will address the knowledge gap of how investments in NbS can create productive employment opportunities in support of a Just Transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all The purpose of this proposal is to request co-funding from the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) for the design, drafting, translation, copyediting, graphic design, publication and (partial) translation of the first report of the series. This report will be published in October 2022 in order to be available and widely shared with counterparts during COP 27 (7-18 November 2022), and will serve as the basis for the long-term development of the biennual report series. This new report series will evolve over time but will have the following overall aims: • Develop an analytical conceptual framework to better assess and understand the linkages and interdependencies between NbS and the world of work • Identify and fill knowledge and data gaps to support analysing the effects of NbS on employment, enterprise development, productivity and decent work • Generate more political will and investments for NbS by modelling the employment impacts of different NbS investment scenarios, and monitoring both the quantity and quality dimensions of employment in this emerging sector and asset class. • Support the integration of NbS into COVID-19 socio-economic recovery and national development plans, as well as integrating NbS elements associated with sustainable enterprise development, decent work and just transition objectives into NDCs and NAPs.
