Improving OSH and social conditions for women and men in coffee farmer communities in Vietnam
1. Objective It is the overall objective of the partnership project between the ILO Vietnam and Nestlé to promote decent working conditions for women and men in coffee farmer communities - with particular focus on OSH, access to social protection and gender equality. Activities under this partnership will make direct contributions to advancing the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda in Vietnam through inclusion of the informal sector in agriculture. By building community-level capacity to help farmers improve and promote safety and health in the workplace, their homes and communities, and benefit from social protection measures, their livelihoods will be strengthened, complementing Nestlé’s farmer support programmes to promote sustainable coffee cultivation practices and climate change resilience. 2. Proposed outcomes 2.1 Research Project Outcome 1: Application of research findings to address knowledge gaps and improvement needs on OSH, working conditions, social protection coverage and gender in targeted dedicated supply chains. 2.2 Training, Awareness & Monitoring Project Outcome 2: Improved application of knowledge on OSH, working conditions including child protection, social protection and gender/non-discrimination by coffee farmers in targeted dedicated supply chains to promote safe and fair workplaces and access to social protection. 2.3 Advocacy and pilot activities Project Outcome 3: Increased use of evidence-based knowledge and pilot measure results in legal frameworks on social protection and OSH to promote social protection coverage and OSH in the informal economy in agriculture. 2.4 Sharing of experiences and lessons learned Project Outcome 4: Application of good practices from this partnership project by sector-wide sustainability initiatives and ILO national partners to advance in OSH, working conditions, social protection and gender/non-discrimination in the Vietnam coffee supply chain.
