Empowerment for resilience: Combatting slavery and slavery-based discrimination in Mauritania and Niger through sector-based social partnerships and sub-regional collaboration

The project’s goal is to accelerate efforts to eradicate descent-based slavery and slavery-based discrimination in Mauritania and Niger. The project will empower the targeted population in the domestic sector in Mauritania and in the handicraft sector in Niger -with the aim to elevate civil, economic, and social status. The project will provide increased local legal assistance, develop admissible and good quality complaints, and follow up on registration, investigation, and prosecution by the authorities. In addition, it will increase the use of the existing institutional and legal framework like health insurance, family pension, school enrollment, school feeding programs, and psychosocial support. Finally, the project will establish independent and diversified sources of income in targeted sectors.
