Implementation of the National Child Labour Survey (NCLS) in Egypt
ILO Office in Cairo through its project “Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains in Africa” (ACCEL Africa) started working with Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) and the Economic Research Forum (ERF) on the design and implementation of Egypt’s NCLS to update the available child labour national statistics that back to 2010. The NCLS comes as one of the main objectives and issues mentioned in Egypt’s “National Action Plan for Combatting the Worst Forms of Child Labour and Supporting Families” (NAP) and will help inform ILO and UNICEF’s respective efforts on child protection and the elimination of child labour in the coming period. The survey will offer policymakers a unique opportunity to make evidence-based decisions that address and combat child labour and provides researchers with a powerful data source to examine the causes and consequences of various interventions and outcomes. The International Labour Organization is proposing to conduct the second round of the National Child Labour Survey in Egypt.
