More and better jobs for young women and men through resilient, inclusive and sustainable supply chains in the Argentine automotive industry
This project, funded by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) of the Government of Japan, aims at generating decent work in the Argentine automotive sector, which is part of the global value chain of the Japanese, Brazilian and US-based automotive industry. Good practices in generating job opportunities for youth, sound industrial relations, increased productivity, skills development, gender equality and local economic development will be collected and shared amongst the value chain actors through social dialogue. It will also promote dialogues aimed at building the capacities of companies to promote sustainable and socially responsible labour practices thus maximising their positive contribution to advancing decent work for sustainable development and inclusive growth. It is implemented in the context of an increasing demand on companies to respect human and labour rights in their operations, and to promote respect for such rights in their supply chains, including by conducting due diligence. At the same time there is recognition that many sustainability challenges and opportunities in supply chains relate to structural and systemic issues at the national level that require collective action beyond what an individual company or the private sector can achieve on its own. Based on the experience of the ILO supporting constituents in applying the principles of the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration) at country level, and the lessons learned from the Conclusions concerning the promotion of sustainable enterprises (2007) and the Conclusions of the Technical meeting on the Future of Work in the Automotive Industry (Geneva, 15-19 February 2021), this project will promote supportive measures to accompany enterprises efforts’ to comply with national law and respect for the principles of international labour standards, more specifically the ILO Declaration of Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and to promote resilient, responsible, safe, inclusive and sustainable workplaces in Argentina. The ultimate objective is to improve working conditions and the well-being of young women and men workers and to support enterprises in enhancing their productivity while promoting responsible business practices.
