Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean - Transitional Period Jan-Dec 2023
The overarching objective of this project is to contribute to the promotion of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the EU and Latin America and Caribbean. This is accomplished by supporting Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) practices in line with internationally agreed principles set out in the United Nations, ILO and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) instruments, and in line with EU regulatory developments on due diligence. The activities are carried out in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama and Peru; and the action is a collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the OECD. The project builds on the four-year experience of the previous phase of the Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean project (RBCLAC). It also takes into account the emergence of social and environmental due diligence regulatory developments and evolving EU priorities. The main activities are centred around supporting business capacity to conduct due diligence in priority sectors, notably mining and extractives, as well as agriculture. Additionally, the project works to strengthen the role of governments in promoting RBC by means of robust policy frameworks. Finally, the action fosters workers´ organisations and other stakeholder engagement for RBC, focusing on capacity building and strengthening multi stakeholder engagement and dialogue regarding Responsible Business Conduct instruments, frameworks and practices.
