Action against Child Labor in Agriculture in West Africa (ACLAWA)

The purpose for the award is to support regional, national, and local action to address child labor in West African agriculture using a systems-based approach. The Project will put government structures - and specifically the ECOWAS Commission, Nigeria, and other ECOWAS Member States - in the drivers’ seat, recognizing that they have the main responsibility to end child labor through the implementation of adequately financed policy measures addressing its root causes, with the support and collaboration of other stakeholders. It will also support community development and social protection initiatives in three geographic areas in Ondo State: Ifedore, Odigbo and Owo LGAs. Our proposed theory of change is that, if key systems and processes are built and strengthened at national level, piloted at the community level, and monitored and shared at regional level, then the ECOWAS Commission and ECOWAS Member States will have the necessary tools and capacity to replicate the Project’s results at scale and achieve a sustainable reduction in the numbers and prevalence of child labor.
