Improved policies and capacities to promote decent working conditions and protection of care workers
This intervention aims to promote decent working conditions for care workers to boost the care economy, one of the national priorities of Indonesia. It addresses a strategic need in recognising, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care duties while valuing care workers by improving their working conditions. The target groups are the policymakers, ILO tripartite constituents and other stakeholders who work for protection of care workers in Indonesia, including the domestic workers’ association and the organization of people with disabilities. The ILO provides technical assistance to raise institutional awareness and capacity of the tripartite constituents on decent work for care workers, as well as to support the design of replicable programmes that recognize and promote decent working conditions and protection of care workers. The expected results of this intervention include: 1) increased awareness and knowledge among constituents and stakeholders on effective care policies and programmes implemented internationally and the potential benefits for Indonesian public investment in the care economy; 2) strengthened capacities of constituents and other stakeholders to integrate their perspectives and ownership in policy discussions on care economy; and 3) enhanced capacity and role of the constituents in shaping policies and programmes for improving community-based childcare or long-term care.
