Supporting development of gender responsive policies and programmes on care economy and decent work for care workers in Uzbekistan.

Through this RBSA-funded intervention, the ILO supports the development of gender-responsive policies and programmes on the care economy and decent work for care workers in Uzbekistan. The intervention addresses the current gap in the provision of affordable and quality care services such as childcare, care for family members with disabilities, health and education services and related decent work deficits in the labour market, with a specific focus on extension of labour and social protection to care workers and adequacy of legal provisions and their application to provide for decent work. The ILO provides technical assistance to the constituents to build their capacity to develop policies on ensuring work-life balance, promoting universal access to social protection schemes and promoting maternity protection and protection in case of unemployment in particular. The main target groups, as well as key partners, are the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (presently the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction), the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan, and the Republican Tripartite Commission on Social and Labour Issues. Other relevant partners are the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, the Business Women’s Association, academia, research centres and civil society organizations. The end beneficiaries are women workers, with a special focus on domestic and care workers. Expected results include the strengthening of the technical capacities of the constituents to promote policies and investments in care services for a more balanced sharing of family responsibilities as well as enhancing national tripartite capacities to improve representation, labour rights, social protection and working conditions of workers in the care economy.
