Advancing Just Transition in Yemen for Accelerated Socioeconomic Recovery through an integrated green business development and apprenticeship model

This RBSA-funded intervention supports Yemen’s Just Transition agenda by helping build the capacity of local Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs) to create green jobs for youth and women, including within the renewable energy sector. It seeks to address some of the critical challenges confronting green job creation and youth employment in Yemen, with a view to strengthening the country’s resilience to climate change and its ability to create decent employment in the sectors promoting a green transition. The intervention targets SMEs, students and employers in the cities of Aden and Sanaa. Through this intervention, the ILO supports the Small and Micro Enterprise Promotion Service (SMEPS) to strengthen its capacity as a provider of training services and certifications for young people in the renewable energy sector. In addition, the ILO collaborates with the Sanaa’s Chamber of Commerce to support skills certification for green SMEs, especially women-led, to deliver apprenticeship programmes. The expected results of the intervention are improved capacity of business development service providers on environmentally friendly entrepreneurship and businesses, and improved capacity of SMEs, especially those led by women, to promote green businesses.
