Better Work Bangladesh - Revenue

Better Work is a flagship programme of the ILO, jointly managed by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank group. The programme brings diverse groups together - employers, factory owners, trade unions, global brands and governments - to improve working conditions and enhance business competitiveness in the global garment industry. Established in 2015, with its focus on promoting decent work, empowering women, and inclusive economic growth, Better Work Bangladesh has been an essential facilitator of growth and expansion of the Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry - one of its largest export-oriented drivers. Over time, the programme has grown to include over 400 participating factories working with 30 brands and retailers, impacting more than a million workers, of which 50 per cent are female. In its next strategic phase 2022-2027, Better Work Bangladesh will strengthen its collaboration with national stakeholders to pave the way for the RMG sector to be a vehicle for decent economic growth for Bangladesh in the wake of LDC graduation. In line with ILO’s support to strengthening the labour market governance (RMG Cluster Programme), Better Work Bangladesh will continue to contribute to the capacity development of constituents and social partners in order to implement the EU National Action Plan (NAP) on the labour sector (2021-2026) and the priority set in the ILO GB roadmap of actions to address all outstanding issuesrelated to ILO Conventions 81, 87 and 98. A key focus of the next strategic phase will be to promote the programme’s sustainability. In partnership with the public and the private sector, the programme will work towards a sustainable and scalable transition of tools, frameworks and mindset from the programme to its constituents, to enable them to continue making an impact in this sector and even beyond, independently from the Better Work Bangladesh programme.
