Better Factories Cambodia (former CMB/12/52/CMB-103755)
Better Work operates in Cambodia as Better Factories Cambodia (BFC). BFC operates under a unique Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), through the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training – MLVT (former Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour, Vocational Training and Youth Rehabilitation), and the Textile, Apparel, Footwear & Travel Goods Association in Cambodia - TAFTAC (former Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia -GMAC), which requires participation in BFC’s programme as a condition of the granting of export licenses. Over the past 20 years the BFC programme has grown to include over 620 participating factories, impacting more than 625,000 workers, of which approximately 85% are female, and their families and communities. The programme, which has been instrumental in establishing a comparative advantage for Cambodia as an ethical sourcing destination, now has four major elements - workplace assessments, associated advisory services, and training, along with tripartite dialogue mechanisms, cooperation, and policy influencing. For the current phase (2022-2027), Better Factories Cambodia programme’s vision is to witness improved lives of workers, their families, communities and competitiveness in the Cambodian garment and footwear factories. To achieve this vision, Better Factories Cambodia will: • Work more consciously with constituents towards sustainability and sustainable results of our joint work; with more focused and determined collaboration towards our goals that we set together; • Work towards results that contribute to the overall national or sectoral competitiveness and wellbeing of workers; • Work in partnership with constituents and key stakeholders, and will welcome current and new partners to work with Better Factories Cambodia when relevant.
