Productive Employment for Women and Youth in Mali through Market Systems Development
The project aims at promoting new and more productive employment for the poor, especially women and youth, such that they can work their way out of poverty in the regions of Sikasso, southern Koulikoro and the district of Bamako, Mali. The project does this by stimulating inclusive and sustainable growth in two high potential sectors which were previously identified in a scoping study, namely the vegetables / market gardening sector and the shea sector. Moreover, the project promotes sustainable natural resource management, seeks to enhance climate change resilience and contributes to climate change mitigation. To promote productive employment, the project uses the market systems development approach to drive inclusive and sustainable growth in two specific highpotential sectors namely the vegetables / market gardening sector and the shea sector. The project also work to support access to finance and the enhancement of business development services (including through digital solutions), transversal constraints to both focal economic sectors and their ability to create new and more productive jobs. This is a three-and-a-half-year project with a budget of SEK 75.5 million, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
