Promotion Social Justice for Traditional Communities

This project was created from a demand from traditional groups, especially indigenous and quilombola peoples, on the II International Symposium of Indigenous Peoples, Quilombola Communities, and African-derived Religion Groups, held in Brasília, in December 2022. At the event, more than 500 civil society leaders discussed their main issues, their demands, and suggestions for progress in terms of human rights, productive inclusion , food security, sustainability, and decent work. Based on the good practices developed in the Promotion of Decent Work for Vulnerable Persons implemented by International Labour Organization (ILO) and The Public Labour Prosecution Office (MPT) , the new project aims to leverage the vast experiences, act in new territories, reaching the entire country, and strengthen actions to support traditional local communities, by expanding their production capacity, generating income, and highlighting their culture as an important basis for the country’s growth. In this sense, the project will include the people mentioned in the Symposium and other populations mapped in its first phase. A survey will be conducted with the communities to listen to their needs and respect their traditions for adequate planning and implementation. The project focuses on three main pillars: knowledge generation, with content production and promotion of face-to-face and remote training; articulation with local and national governments and constitutional conventions to include the topic in policies and joint action, through partnerships and joint open consultations; and the strengthening of communities, through qualification and equipment to ensure productive inclusion, the sustainability of their territories and the strengthening of local leaders.
